How Often Should I Replace My Toothbrush?
Posted:Mar 01, 2019
Do you ever stand over the sink and look at those frayed toothbrush bristles, and wonder if it’s time replace that brush? At Southern York Smile Care in Shrewsbury PA, we recommend replacing your brush every three months, because it’s best for your dental health.
Those frayed bristles? They’re the telltale sign. Don’t become too attached to a favorite brush. It may be comfortable, like an old pair of bluejeans, but using a brush too long is not a good idea.
The angle of the bristles on your toothbrush are an important part of cleaning. Straight bristles scrub your teeth and flex your gums. A light circular motion is enough to clean your teeth without causing damage.
Flat or frayed bristles are less efficient and can even cause you to work harder. Pressing harder on your teeth can cause damage.
Bacteria can also built up in the small gaps of your toothbrush and may contribute to decay and bad breath. Make sure you keep your toothbrush in a sanitary location. Allow for good drying to help extend its life.
Regardless of how long it’s been, if the bristles on your toothbrush look like they’re trying to get away from each other, it’s time for a change.
At Southern York Smile Care in Shrewsbury PA, a fresh toothbrush is one part of the dental health equation. The other is seeing us for a cleaning and checkup every six months. Services also include cosmetic dentistry. Schedule an appointment today!
