Mouthwash Facts and Dental Health In Shrewsbury PA
Posted:Apr 27, 2018
When is a mouthwash more than a mouthwash? You may use mouthwash to freshen your breath. But at Southern York Smile Care in Shrewsbury PA, we remind you that it can do more than that. Mouthwash can be used to enhance your dental health.
The mouthwash you find in the grocery store or your local drug store comes in two basic types: cosmetic and therapeutic. Cosmetic mouthwash is what helps you chase away a stale mouth. Therapeutic mouthwashes, on the other hand, can help to reduce or control the buildup of plaque, gingivitis, and tooth decay.
When you’re shopping for a mouthwash, look for one that has the American Dental Association seal on the label. This means that the manufacturer has provided scientific evidence that shows is both safe and effective. The ADA Council on Scientific Affairs has evaluated it according to its own objective requirements.
There are a few things to remember about any mouthwash. First, it should never be given to children under the age of six unless directed by a dentist. Kids have a way of swallowing mouthwashes (and other liquids) without meaning to.
Second, remember that no mouthwash is a substitute for brushing and flossing. Consider it a good addition to your daily oral hygiene routine.
At Southern York Smile Care in Shrewsbury PA, we want everyone to have great dental health. Mouthwash is a good supplement to your hygiene, but we like to see you twice a year for regular cleanings and checkups. We also provide cosmetic and restorative dentistry services.
